Demystifying the SDGs – Part 3

The SDGs can get very serious.
When the Brundtland Commission published “Our Common Future” and coined the term “Sustainable Development” meaning “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. It pretty much set the ball rolling about discussions around sustainability. The world started taking this seriously. In the equation of sustainability there are many sides and each of these sides/groups have their own unique, interesting and yet peculiar perspective.
There’s a difference in how each of these sides view the world. These differences can stem from having a different starting point of view e.g. businesses feel like they built the world while environmentalists feel business people are the bad guys. Also businesses would measure results in quarters, annually or even 5 year plans but environmental effects could take years to materialize. Some people feel that the government can sometimes be lax on business people which may promote bad behavior. These groups each have valid reasons for why they feel that way. Sustainability can be a very tricky topic but it is the elephant in the room that cannot be ignored.
